Since it was available for Pre-Order, Killing Floor has floated among the top 5 hottest selling games on Steam and for the past couple days has held the #1 spot! The reception has far exceeded my expectations and working on Killing Floor with Tripwire has been fantastic. It's hard to find the right words to convey the gratification of watching Killing Floor go from a small mod community to be one of the most popular titles on the biggest digitial distribution service in the world. It's been a long four years but it goes to show: stick to your guns, because sooner or later the inevitable zombie/specimen outbreak is going to happen.

Killing Floor Going Retail

So it's time to confess why I've been silently unavailable the past several months.

Tripwire Interactive announces Killing Floor, a survival-horror co-op shooter for PC!

Today, 20th March 2009, Tripwire is proud to announce its next title – Killing Floor – coming soon to Steam.

Roswell, GA, March 20th 2009 – Tripwire Interactive is proud to announce Killing Floor, due for release over Steam in the near future. Killing Floor is a first-person co-op survival horror, set in and around London after a mad scientist’s “specimens” have broken loose and gone on the rampage.

The game features:

  • Co-op game mode for up to six players obliterating multiple waves of specimens
  • Solo game mode for offline play
  • Watch those crucial and violent creature deaths in slomo “ZEDtime”, even in multiplayer
  • 9 different monster types trying to eat your face off, armed with everything from teeth and claws, through to chainsaws, chainguns and rocket-launchers
  • 12+ weapons for the players to chose from, ranging from knives and fire-axes up to pump shotguns, rifles and a flamethrower
  • Add in a welder, medical tools and body armor to help the players survive
  • Persistent Perks system, allowing players to convert their in-game achievements into permanent improvements to their character’s skills and abilities
  • Players choose which Perks to play with, so they can best balance out a co-op team to survive the horrors
  • Open, non-linear play areas: choose when and where to fight – or run; weld doors closed to try and direct the monster horde
  • Full support for Steamworks features, including Steam Achievements and Friends
  • Fully-configurable, allowing players to change things as simple as the difficulty level or number of creature waves, or go so far as to set up their own favorite waves of monsters
  • Includes SDK for the creation of new levels and mods

Hush, Hush

The case of no news is again good news.

ImageI just completed a commercial contract and within the week will be entering another with a new client. Neither have been officially announced yet so there's good reason to remain silent about them both. When the news breaks check out both projects. I have had/will have a lot of fun working on them and I'm really excited to see what happens next. Short of not giving out details other than I'm having a fine time finding work doing something I love, I also wanted to touch base on the briefly mentioned Community Bonus Pack 3 soundtrack, dubbed Play.

Play is being delayed until May 2009. This move takes several key points into consideration. I'd like to put a decent amount of effort into this release and at this present time I don't feel there is currently enough material to warrant a full length album worthy of serving as a soundtrack. This will allow time for new material that hasn't yet been released with any of the current volumes to be justly included. This will also keep the soundtrack down to one definitive release rather than several smaller mini-releases. The release is going to be handled similar to Killing Floor: Collected , except the art will be prettier :)

Stay tuned.

Several at a close

It's been a slow news month but for good reason. Work on Killing Floor 2.51, the Community Bonus Pack 3 vol2, and the previously unannounced involvement with The Ball: Oztoc has all been completed. Contributions across the board range from music to directing and processing dialog from several actors. At large not one of the projects has been released but it is a relief for myself to have completed each sucessfully and a pleasure to have had the opportunity to contribute or continue to contribute to each one. Each of these projects should be released in the very near future along with the very real likelyhood of a Community Bonus Pack 3 soundtrack seeing a release before the end of the year.

Killing Floor - Collected Released
Image Killing Floor 2.5 has been released a few days ago, that means the soundtrack Killing Floor - Collected is now available. You can find it here in the releases section. CDs are also available, which is a first for me. I received an evaluation copy from the publisher and I've got to say it's really pro. The CD audio is from the source wav, not mp3s, so there is a difference in clarity. Even the art was printed from source (huge) images. For $7.75 you actually get physical media to hold, or if you don't like holding things there's MP3s to download. Hit me up with the donate link, or don't. It's your call. I'm not asking for money but these are some things a few people requested so I wanted to make them available for the people that wish to show support.

Keep On Truckin

ImageCBP3 has been getting much good feedback from the community so far. My break will be short-lived though. After playing a few matches with some of the CBP3 team this weekend I'll be getting right back to work. I'm not sure how much this would interest anyone but none of the CBP3 songs were written start to finish, each music segment was written seperately. Not to say consistency between each segment wasn't important or achieved, just that full versions haven't been rendered. I got a head start on this and rendered Autumn Sigh. There is a short ingame clip of the map it is used in, Endura by GreenLoves, that demonstrates the dynamic music system well. The full version of the song can be heard here.

I've also finished the new cover for Killing Floor - Collected and the playlist is now final. This release is a first for me as professionally manufactured CDs will be available for sale. The CD will be released along side mp3s which will be openely available on a pay what you want basis. Killing Floor - Collected will be released in July, 2008.
